On August 3rd my FBP and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. I was working at The Gorge for Watershed, and he was working at Benaroya Hall. We got to spend a few minutes on the phone, but it was so nice to hear his voice at the end of a very long work day for both of us.
Some of you know our story. We met in Nashville at our favorite BBQ restaurant, Jim & Nicks. When I moved to Seattle, JMR and I had only been dating four months. We continued to make it work with 2500 miles between us for the next 2 years. Last October JMR moved from Nashville to Seattle.
About a month or so before our 3 year anniversary, we started ring shopping. JMR wanted to make sure that I picked out the ring. He knows how picky I am and was going to make sure this was something I would love. We went to Robbins Brothers in downtown Seattle. If you are looking, I highly recommend this place. They are wonderful! There was this one ring that took my breathe away as soon as I tried it on. We took photos of it, and we left.
I didn't realize this, but the next morning my FBP went back to Robbins Brothers, spent hours picking out the diamond, and ordered the ring. They told him it would take 8 weeks to craft the ring. Now I didn't know any of this, and I would drive him crazy painting my ring finger a different color from the rest of my fingers to remind him, "If you like it, you should put a ring on it". And I would do a little dance when I would show him my finger. HA! We love to pester each other! So much fun!
Fast forward to last Saturday night. It was just a normal evening. We were trying to decide what to do for dinner. I suggested riding our bikes somewhere, and JMR suggested Matador in Ballard. So we rode over and had a nice dinner. I even had dessert which I typically don't do, but I love flan!!! So I went for it! It's important to the story, because when we got home I was feeling fat and happy. All I wanted to do was get into my footy peejays and snuggle up on the couch. That's when JMR says we should go for a little walk. I'm thinking, "A WALK?!! We just rode our bikes 6 miles".
But the tone in his voice had changed to his romantic voice. He said, "c'mon, we can walk off dinner. It's not a race. We can just stroll over to Gas Works Park". Now I'm thinking, "GAS WORKS PARK??!! That's a flippin' mile away"! But he kept gently pushing for us to go, and I knew something was up.
So I ran a brush through my hair. HA! I mean, we had been riding our bikes. And I put a little tissue in my pocket. He asked if I wanted to bring my purse which meant my phone. Something was definitely up, because he wanted me to be able to take photos.
As we were walking over to Gas Works Park, JMR was saying the sweetest things to me. It was one of the most tender, encouraging, supportive conversations we've ever had together.
We got to Gas Works and walked up to the top of the hill. I've been to Gas Works several times during the day but never at night. If you haven't been...GO! It's a stunning view of the downtown Seattle sparkling skyline and the glowing Space Needle!
Below us some people were setting off Love Lanterns. You know the small hot air balloon type things that go floating high up above the city. It was perfect.
We sat down and were admiring the view, and that's when he asked me. When he brought the box out, I was wondering how I would see the ring. The sun had already set, and it was dark. Well those smarty pants engagement people at Robbins Brothers put a light in that ring box!!! It made the ring sparkle even more!
Tears of joy ran down my face. Thank goodness I brought that tissue huh? It was a moment I will never forget! I was so happy it was private, just us and somewhere we enjoy going together.
We made a wish on one of the Love Lanterns and hung out for a little while longer enjoying the moment.
How crazy is this? We strolled by these two guys snapping photos of the downtown skyline view. One of those guys is a Wolf listener - Matthew Charchenko- and he posted one of the pictures he took of that night.
What a night!
Many of you have asked about our wedding plans. We want to enjoy being engaged for a while. We've got a lot of decisions to make when we begin planning. My family lives in Arkansas, and my closest friends are all over the deep south in Nashville, Birmingham, and Biloxi. JMR's family is in Arizona, Kansas, and Nashville. So for now, we are going to relax, enjoy this moment in our lives, and keep on loving each other more everyday.
Thank you for always being so supportive! There are so many of you that helped us get through some really dark, lonely times when we were so far apart. All of your comments, posts, texts, and phone calls have meant the world to us. We appreciate all of the love and support!
Oh and I've gone back to painting my nails all the same color! MY FBP PUT A RING ON IT!

So happy for you both, what a beautiful story! My hubby and I shopped first too, just never knew he bought it either. He asked me an hour before my 10 year highschool reunion. He knew it was always something I wanted, to be married by my 10 year so he figured being engaged for it would have to do. :) Congrats to you both! Beautiful ring and you have to have pretty nails to show off the ring! :)
I'm oh so very excited for you two...two of my absolutely FAV people! Congrats girlie!!
Citing Ty Herndon as inspiration yesterday... Billy Gillman filmed a video and uploaded it to YouTube. He is also gay.
Billy claims the fact that he is gay has kept him from signing a major record deal. If that's true, that is sad and...
Ty Herndon has come out of the closet! Read the entire story from People Magazine HERE.
Here's a couple of my favorite Ty Herndon songs from the 90's:
Good for you, Ty. I support your courage and hope you can be a role model...
Meghan Trainor (who sings "All About That Bass") steps up to the mic and belts out an AWESOME version of Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off"! This is addicting! Check it out.
