Should Women Be Allowed In Combat?

Last week, the Pentagon decided open up thousands of near-the-front-line military jobs to female military personnel who were previously restricted from these types of jobs.  What does this mean?  I honestly had no idea that this was even going on to tell you the truth, but the simple fact still remains.....

Women are still banned from combat, although this move to put them closer to harm’s way has made a few people very mad, including Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who said that when women are too close to the front line “emotions” could lead to “compromised situations.” So what does the public think about the Pentagon’s measure?  I have been around some very tough ladies in my life and to dismiss them because they have feelings and emotions seems wrong.  Um hello have you watched Hilliary Clinton speak before?  If it was do or die for that lady I think she could pop a few shots off and not cry about it.

According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll that was taken last year, 73 percent of American adults support allowing women in the military to serve in ground units that engage in close combat. Twenty-five percent opposed, and two percent had no opinion.  WOLFPACK what do you think?  Comment before and let me know if you think women should be allowed to FIGHT on the FRONT lines along with men. Comment now please!

Something also to think about....

While younger people and those who describe themselves as liberal are more likely to support women in combat, not single traditional demographic group was majority opposed to the idea in the ABC News/Washington Post survey.

Women in combat
I am a military veteran, I can tell you from personal experience that some of the people I served with that I would HAPPILY have by my side are women. Yes it is true that they allow more emotion then men. However, they are by nature also more protective. So this would make them a valuable asset to military units in combat. I feel that women, if they so choose, should be allowed in combat.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as they can do the job. As far as letting their emotions put them in compramising positions, maybe those same emotions will stop them from peeing on a dead enemy.

Yes they should have the right! I served in 1985 and recieved so much shit for being a female. I had to prove myself. And I did.If emotions didnt come into it .. why do males m=not want females in the military?? emotions???

yes
I went to basic training in the Air Force, and the whole part of training is to teach you leave emotion out and do your job. We are trained in combat though not put in it, and many women did just as well if not better than some men in that training. Women don't join the military wanting to sit in the background. Many of the women I met, had such strong conviction and loyalty to our wonderful country. If women want to choose that job to be on the front line, I think they should have that choice. Women tend to have better aim and marksmanship than men do as well, so why not let them?

Navy Female Vet
Having been in the navy, I think they should be allowed to serve in any position that they can complete the physical tests for. While serving on a ship I was trained in weapons, basic hand to hand combat, and the steps of deadly force, just so that i could stand watch while we were in port. On a ship you are the front line all the time with the possibility of anti-piracy operations, or any other thing that could happen. So why shouldn't a Army female be able to do an infantry job, if she has the same training and physical abilities.

Army Veteran and Army Wife
ABSOLUTELY!! I'm so tired of the whole "women have too much emotion" and "it will compromise the mission because men won't be able to focus" garbage!! I trained with men in basic training and I met or surpassed them in training. I was trained to "leave the emotion at the door" and drive on. It's entertaining to me that Mr. Santorum calls it "emotions" when it comes to women but when he compared the EMOTIONS between the men in combat positions he referred to it as "camaraderie". I, no offense to those who support/vote for him, would be inclined to vote for NO CHANGE Obama if it came down to him and Mr. Santorum! Obviously he has never served in the Military!! Obviously he has been blind and deaf the last decade in which there have been women MIA and KIA! Obviously he missed that convoy through Baghdad in which we ended up on foot... guess what I don't need a penis to be in combat, I can defend my own and those around me with out one!! I'm not emotional... I'm PASSIONATE about my Country, My troops, and my MISSION!! DRIVE ON!

HELL YES!!
I'm in the Army as a female I see more males not be able to hack it! Females we have to be able to put everything in a nice little box and keep everything seperated men don't this means more tool to use when things get bad!!

What front lines?
They fight the same they die the same. As a female veteran in the Military Police Corp I saw the blurred lines of combat, I watched my male comrades as they paid the ultimate price and I fought through it, and when we returned to the fob yes I shared thesame emotions as my male counterparts so in the end someone please tell me where those"front lines" we're cause most of the people that I saw in sector were MPs or infantry. If it doesn't happen now it will eventually.

Yes!
I know this post was from yesterday but I just saw it today. I believe if any woman believes she is tough enough to join any branch of the military she should have to fight just as hard and do everything a man in the military does. It's just ridiculous to do otherwise. I mean they do go through basic just like the men and if they can pass basic then there's no reason they can't do what the men do.

Absolutely without doubt. If your enlisting in the military you understand what your doing. No special treatments for anyone. Men, women, gay or straight.
